Foundations, Training and Practical Application of Asian Medicine Principles

Level 1.

This comprehensive program is designed for anyone interested in gaining a solid foundation in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), blending theoretical knowledge with practical applications. Participants will explore the philosophies and techniques of TCM and their integration with modern healthcare practices under the concept of Integrative Medicine.

The program is structured over 8 weekends (80 hours total), with sessions alternating between on-site and online formats. Each weekend covers a focused topic to ensure in-depth learning, followed by practical application.

Course Structure

Weekend 1: Introduction to Traditional Chinese Medicine (Online)

  • Content:
    • Philosophical foundations of TCM: Yin-Yang Theory and Five Elements Theory
    • Zang-Fu organs and their role in health and disease
    • Overview of Qi, Shen, Blood, and Body Fluids
    • Introduction to syndrome differentiation and diagnosis in TCM
  • Learning Outcome:
    • Understanding TCM’s foundational theories and how they relate to clinical thinking and diagnosis

Weekend 2: Meridians and Acupoints Part 1. (On-Site)

  • Content:
    • Introduction to the Meridian System and the acupoints
    • Locating major acupuncture points for clinical application Part 1.
    • Understanding the pathways of meridians in relation to health conditions
    • Practical session: Identifying and palpating meridian pathways
  • Learning Outcome:
    • Gain proficiency in identifying meridians and key acupoints for therapeutic use

Weekend 3: Meridians and Acupoints Part 2 (Online)

  • Content:
    • Introduction Electronic Acupuncture Pen Stimulator (mechanism of action, usage, contradications)
    • Locating major acupuncture points for clinical application Part 2.
    • Understanding the pathways of meridians in relation to health conditions
    • Selecting key acupunctre points 
  • Learning Outcome:
    • Gain proficiency in selecting meridians and key acupoints for therapeutic use
    • Use of Electronic Acupuncture Pen Stimulator (non invasive)

Weekend 4: Auricular Acupuncture and NADA Protocol (On-Site)

  • Content:
    • Overview of auricular acupuncture with emphasis on the NADA protocol
    • Application of auricular acupuncture in managing stress, addiction, and mental health
    • Demonstration of auricular point location and needle insertion
  • Learning Outcome:
    • Acquire knowledge of the NADA protocol and its applications in healthcare

Weekend 5: Complimentary TCM Therapeutics / Theory (Online)

  • Content:
    • Cupping Therapy (History, Theory, Usage in the modern era a.k.a. myofascial decompression)
    • Moxibustion (History, Theory, Usage in the modern era)
    • Gua Sha (History, Theory, Usage in the modern era a.k.a. Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM)
    • Ear Seeds – Key points
  • Learning Outcome:
    • Understand the history and theoretical framework of the mechanism of action and usage of TCM complementary therapeutics (Cupping, Moxibustion, Gua Sha, Ear seeds)

Weekend 6: Complimentary TCM Therapeutics / Clinical Practice (On-Site)

  • Content:
    • Cupping: Clinical Practice / Application
    • Moxibustion:: Clinical Practice / Application
    • Gua Sha: Clinical Practice / Application
    • Ear Seeds – Point location and Clinical Practice / Application
  • Learning Outcome:
    • Practical understanding of common TCM complimentary therapeutic methods and their role in health, disease, and patient care

Weekend 7: Introduction to dietics, herbs and decoctions (Online)

  • Content:
    • Basics of TCM Dietetics: Food as medicine, classification by warming/cooling properties.

    • Common Herbs: Overview of key herbs used in daily health and treatment.

    • Decoctions: Methods of preparation and common prescriptions.

    • Nutritional Therapy: Individualized dietary recommendations based on TCM diagnosis.

  • Learning Outcome:
    • Understand the role of food and herbs in maintaining balance and treating illness, Identify common TCM herbs


Weekend 8: Clinical Practice and Case Studies (On-Site)

  • Content:
    • Practical workshop: Treating patients using a combination of TCM techniques: Acupuncture (via non invasive Electronic Acupuncture Pen, Cupping, Moxibustion,  Ear Acupuncture, Ear seeds, Gua Sha)
    • Case studies on managing common conditions
    • Final evaluation and feedback session
  • Learning Outcome:
    • Achieve confidence in using a variety of TCM methods in clinical settings and understand their integrative role in healthcare.
